David flees Jerusalem with his servants as Absalom approaches. David finds more loyalty among the gentiles than his own people. David’s top advisor has sided with Absalom, but David has one friend left who might be an answer to his prayers. Chad and Daniel discuss all of this.
Absalom has great hair but still spends two years without seeing his father. He lights Joab’s field on fire to get an audience with David. Absalom gets a chariot and 50 men and begins to put a plan in place to steal the hearts of the people. Chad and Daniel discuss all of this.
The Christ Key Book
Joab puts together a plan to trap David in his words and bring Absalom home. A wise and courageous woman tells David a very Cain and Able story and asked David to do something contrary to the law. It’s no parable of the prodigal son, but the gospel is in the mouth of an unlikely massager. Chad and Daniel discuss all of this.
Absalom waits two years and then puts together a plan to kill Amnon. It isn’t a good plan, but it gets the job done. David is watching his house fall apart while Absalom is on the run. Chad and Daniel discuss all of this.
Chad and Daniel discuss one of the most disturbing stories in the Old Testament. David’s house is starting to fall apart as his eldest son’s obsession with his half-sister leads to dark and terrible events. And Absalom begins to see his father as weak and foolish.

Chad and Daniel hit pause on 2 Samuel to look at Psalm 51. David pleads with God for mercy, forgiveness, and a clean heart and says he will tell sinners everywhere about the steadfast love of his God. This is a beautiful Psalm of repentance and forgiveness. Have a listen.
God sends the prophet Nathan to confront David about his sin. Nathan tells a story about a poor man and a lamb and David condemns himself in his reaction. Sin is admitted and forgiveness is given in one of the great pictures of confession and absolution in the scriptures. Chad and Daniel discuss all of this.
Uriah won’t cooperate with David’s plan to cover up his sin, so he sends him back with a letter instructing Joab to make sure Uriah doesn’t survive the battle. Joab doesn’t follow the instructions, but still gets David what he wants. And David marries the wife of Uriah. Chad and Daniel discuss all of this.
Chad and Daniel discuss the beginning of the lowest part of David’s life. While his men are gone at war, David becomes idle, and watching a beautiful woman bathe starts a chain of terrible and sin-riddled events.
